Y CARIBBEAN ENVIRONMENT ISLA VERDE
The third edition of the Caribbean International Film and Environment Festival, Isla Verde, will be held from April 6 to 12, 2025, in the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, reaffirming its commitment to environmental education and the promotion of sustainable development through film and various artistic manifestations.
Chaired by actor, director and plastic artist Jorge Perugorría, National Film Award 2024, the event is consolidated as a space for reflection on the ecological challenges of the Caribbean and the world and counts, for the second consecutive time, with the fundamental collaboration of the program ‘Transcultura: Integrating Cuba, the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity’, implemented by UNESCO and financed by the European Union.
AN EXPANDING FESTIVAL
This year, Isla Verde received more than 100 entries from 24 countries, with an outstanding presence of works from Cuba, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Spain, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, Chile and France. In addition, for the first time, films from Bangladesh, India, Senegal and Indonesia will be included, broadening the diversity of views on the relationship between human beings and their environment. After a rigorous selection process, 38 films have been chosen to compete in the different categories of the competition.
The screenings, free of charge, will be held at the Cine Caribe in Nueva Gerona, and will be extended to other venues in the city and in the town of La Fe, guaranteeing greater participation by the Pinero audience.
On this occasion, and as a novelty, the Festival will have Spain as Guest of Honor, which is why the opening day will feature the Cuban premiere of the feature film “Mariposas Negras”, an animated documentary awarded the Goya Award for Best Animated Film 2025.
