Official Competition Awards 2025

Category: Feature Films

The organizing committee of the 3rd edition of the Caribbean International Film and Environment Festival, Isla Verde 2025, has decided to award an award for best production and a special award in the feature film category.

The jury of the category awards:

Special Award to the animated feature film "Mariposas Negras" (Spain), by David Baute, for its poignant portrayal of how climate change transforms lives, highlighting the stories of three women facing loss and migration, and underscoring the urgency of acting for a more humane future.

The award for best film goes to "A queda do Céu" (Brazil/Italy) by directors Eryk Rocha and Gabriela Carneiro da Cunha, for its powerful collaboration with the Yanomami people, highlighting the struggle of their leader Davi Kopenawa in the face of threats from logging, mining and epidemics, while seeking to restore the balance between humanity and nature.

Category: Short Films

The short film jury has decided to award one prize for best production and two special prizes.

Special Award for the documentary: "Metalmorfosis" (Cuba) by Director: Maikel Jorge Pascual for its inspiring portrayal of Emilio's resilience and creativity, who transforms the discarded into art, inviting us to reflect on sustainability and the hidden beauty of the forgotten.

Special Award for the documentary "Guardians of Nature. Stories of Resistance" (Argentina) by Director Antonella Cardozo Casares for her portrayal of the resistance of the indigenous peoples of Jujuy, highlighting their struggle to protect their territory and preserve their ancestral knowledge in the face of threats from the exploitation of natural resources.

The award for best short film goes to the documentary: "Finca Costera" (Cuba) by Director: Leonardo Rego for its admirable transformation of an abandoned area into an agricultural, artistic and tourist space, highlighting the efforts of Yohanka and her family to promote Cuban biodiversity and sustainable environmental management.

Category: Films in Progress

The Films in Progress jury has decided to award two prizes for best production.

Award for the documentary "The Earth Explodes, Time Runs Out" (Argentina) by Director Juan Pablo Lepore for its valuable showcase of environmental leaders fighting against pollution and exploitation, inspiring a collective commitment to a more sustainable and just world.

Award for the documentary: "The Taste of Honey" (Bangladesh) directed by Mohammad Rakibul Hasan and Fabeha Monir for its portrayal of the resilience of Shorbanu Khatun, who faces the challenges of climate change and social exclusion, finding hope in her community and connection with nature.
